This strange mechanism is located on the dam at our local park. Looks like it's part of dam's mechanism although i can't find anything that resembles mechanical parts except of this one. A dam is built of rocks, so no moving parts there too.

I found these two in our local park. The lizard was running and carrying another lizard in his mouth! Now i wonder: is it cannibalism or what? I mean well, cats are carrying their children in a somewhat same way, so maybe it's something similar or they really eating each other?
Photos are far from perfect: i was in hurry to catch this scene and used F8 - too open for shots like these. Had to use F11 to get a greater DOF.

My submission to Earth Mosaic
Alright, here are three photos i made for and submitted to Earth Mosaic, a project i wrote about in this post:
Agama lizard. Was really hard to catch, i spent a long time waiting in the broiling sun. But it was worth it i think:

Brownian motion

I almost gave up trying to make this shot: hard wind made the water rippled, so i had to wait couple of hours to finally make this one. Don't know if i like it yet.

Inittab (note to self)
Run something right before login prompt with inittab. In my case it's setterm which clears the screen and changes the tty font color to «old-school» bold green as i like.
Open /etc/inittab and find this block of code:
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6
Add the following right after 'getty' on each line:
-I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store`
So it looks like this:
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store` 38400 tty1
2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store` 38400 tty2
3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store` 38400 tty3
4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store` 38400 tty4
5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store` 38400 tty5
6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -I `setterm -clear all -foreground green -bold -store` 38400 tty6
Reboot and enjoy!

I can only guess how old the tree is.
I proud to say that both photos are featured on Panoramio: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/20665815, http://www.panoramio.com/photo/20665828 and were selected for Google Earth!
