I made this one immediately after «To The Skies». I've been on the way to meet my dad and passed by a huge wasteland with nothing but this shopping cart on it. So i thought it will made an interesting «trash»-style photograph. I'm happy with the result although it took me hours of playing with different tones to colorize it.

Nothing special today, just this cat for now. I am in a bad mood and tired of this weather: hard cold wind makes me sick.

I made a similar photo year ago. I just like how the light gets this golden-green hue when come through the leaves.

Tamron announces 60mm F2 Macro Lens

«Tamron has announced the development of a 60mm F2 macro lens that provides 1:1 magnification for APS-C sensors. The lens, called the SP AF60mm F/2.0 Di II Macro 1:1, will be available in Canon, Sony and Nikon mounts (with a built-in autofocus motor to allow AF to operate on the D40, D40X and D60). Its design, which incorporates two low dispersion elements to to compensate for various aberrations, lets you achieve 1:1 magnification at a working distance of 100mm. The F2 maximum aperture makes it a whole stop faster than other lenses in the same class. Price and availability will be announced later.»

Looks like a great lens. I'd consider to get one. Will wait to see it's price.

 More spring shots

Apricot:

Apricot flower macro shot

ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/500 sec
Aperture: 8.0
Focal Length: 300mm
Flash Used: Yes (-1.7 EV)

Great day today, warm and sunny. Birds, bees, everything enjoys the coming spring.
I learn how to use flash in daylight photography. Have to say i like the results. It adds a lot to images and i am able to shot with faster exposures, which is important when using such a long (and not so fast) lens. And i can shot with smaller apertures to get a greater DOF. The only thing to remember is to lower the flash value to something like -1.5 EV to avoid overexposure and blue color cast. I don't use BL either as i need a darker background which makes the subject to «pop». Overall i think these images are far from perfection, but i'm still learning.
Two more images after the break.

Update 25.08.2009: i finally found some info about this bulldozer! It called "Vertical Power" and was made by Israeli artist Ezra Orion in 1997. Thanks to Panoramio user dafnahorev for providing this info.

 Hunter's dinner

I found this Mantis in our garden. I knew they are good hunters, but haven't seen such a big specimen in action in such a good detail. He has a very good appetite, it took him five or so minutes to finish the dinner, and he didn't missed a crumb. Seems like the grasshopper has been alive almost until the end... It was disgusting but at the same time very interesting to watch this scene. More (lot of) images after the break.

ISO: 100

The flower is Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum longebracteatum). This species is also known as Pregnant Onion.
The title is unblushingly stolen from the lyrics of «Flood II» by The Sisters of Mercy:

«Sitting here now in this bar for hours
Strange men rent strange flowers».

I don't know why i love this song. I don't really know why i love The Sisters of Mercy at all. I have an Egyptian eye from their «Vision Thing» album cover tattooed on my right shoulder. I made it years ago, actually it was my first tattoo and i love it too. Life is full of crazy and unusual stuff...

I made a redesign this morning. Can't remember what was a previous template i used here, but it was too narrow so i had to spend hours hacking it's layout to be able to post bigger photos without breaking everything. Today i incidentally found this wonderful Minima Stretch template. I think the blog looks much better now. Well, it needs some touch-up too, like changing uppercase fonts in posts footer etc., but it is nothing compared to heavy tweaking i made to previous template.
And yes! Spring is finally here: sun and nice warm weather i've been waiting for all winter long.
